Soccer balls were initially made from leather but this made them prone to weight increase when wet and poor performance. PU, TPU and PVC are the most commonly used materials, however, offer different qualities and specs depending on construction.
The ball is spherical, covered with leather or some other suitable material, and inflated to a pressure equal to 0.6–1.1 atmospheres (8.5–15.6 pounds per square inch [600–1,100 grams per square cm]) at sea level; it must be 27–28 inches (68–70 cm) in circumference and 14–16 ounces.
